[After receiving my results, I wrote this letter to Steve Liosi, who is the single reason why I passed the California bar exam.]

Steve,

This was a magical weekend (May 25th, 2007). Around mid-January (a month before the Bar) you said something to me that constantly replayed in my mind as I was waiting for the results. You said something to this effect: "Passing the California Bar Exam is one of the hardest things a person can experience, if they struggle with it." Well, I did struggle with it for 2 years. In that time, life kept moving, I got married and started that part of my life, but it felt like my life was still on hold. This Friday evening was one of those moments that will forever be etched in my memory--one of those moments of true happiness and a feeling of true victory. Everyone has rejoiced with me this weekend. It was amazing. My wife was glowing all weekend (still is and will probably glow for another month or two), my brother couldn't stop saying he was proud of me, and my parents cried tears of joy! So many of my friends, not even taking the bar or even going into the legal field have said to me, "John, you have inspired me!" As they congratulated me, my friends would tell me their stories of the fears that they've had of the tests that await them as they proceed into their profession. Each time, however, they saw that after I failed, I would get back up and fight to pass the bar. And so they told me, because of you I can now do it too! This is no joke, Steve. Do you know how good it feels to inspire someone else to pursue their dream, to fight for their happiness? It is a wonderful experience--more than I could have ever imagined.

With all of that said, thank you so much for always being forthright with me. In fact that is why I called you instead of all the other programs out there. When I read your website, I said to myself that this program is not fluff. And true to your promise, in our first meeting, you told me that this would be an intensive but very rewarding experience. Further true to your promise, you told me that you would not let me feel like I got "burned" as I have in other programs. And I didn't. After leaving the testing room on Tuesday morning, I knew with confidence in my heart that I had finally written a solid passing essay, which was exactly what I needed to pass the exam. In the past, my essay writing was a brain-dump of all the law I knew and loosely applied analysis, or it was me trying to pin-point issues and in an unsophisticated manner--make up something for the graders to read. But, not this time. I just knew there was an extra edge in my writing. I felt confident after each morning essay session. If it were not for the Barperfect Essay Bundles, I don't know what I would have done. Furthermore, you also stayed true to your promise that you would assist me with the MBE portion--something that I had truly struggled with. But, your method of deep rooted analysis of the MBE questions, their respective answers and having me find out where the answers came from and why the nuance was the way it was, gave me a solid method for approaching all other MBEs. Finally, your ability to precisely diagnose my problem with the PTs was a tremendous help. I think I knew the answer to my problem all along, but you were instrumental in drawing the answer out of me and helping me apply the method.

Again thanks so much! You created a great program!

I hope to speak to you soon.

P.S. I will send numerous Whittier grads your way.

John,

A sincere thank you!

You were a pleasure to work with. You never once doubted our out-of-the-box process.

Too bad, but most students do not realize that sitting in crowded lecture halls with thick, shiny books is not the way to go until it is too late.

I agree with you -- I wish you would have met me sooner.

A belated congratulations,

Steve Liosi, Esq.

Hey, Steve Liosi!

Was searching around and found this site. Glad I did.

I agree with John Cayangyang -- You, too, are the reason that I passed. Nobody has the writing wired like you do.

I'll never forget what you said throughout the program: "How you write UNDERNEATH your rule statements determines whether you pass or fail."

I know it is a hard business for the smaller courses, given bar/bri's enormous marketing budget. And the misinformation out there is mind-boggling. Everybody thinks its all about head notes and perfect rule statements, not even addressing or contemplating the analytical aspect of things. Flat out, I had one tutor say, "Forget about analysis. They don't even read your books. They just look for head notes." True story, and that person gets paid for such nonsense. Amazing!

To be honest, in the begining I doubted you, but sooner than later, I realized that you were only person I met who knew anything about the essays and the PTs.

Anyway, keep up the good fight, Steve! If not for you, I'd still be memorizing rule statements and making flash cards instead of practicing law.

By the way, great site -- you've done a good job of keeping out the trash. Most of these law student sites . . . you wonder if you're back in junior high.

A Secret Admirer
(you know who, but, as a 4-time failure, not thrilled about posting my real name)
